Sandplay is an expressive counselling approach that has been around for well over 50 years and uses a sandtray, reminiscent of earlier experiences with sand in nature, at the beach or in childhood sandpits.
The sand tray allows us to create a world using symbols. The symbols fill the shelves of a sandplay room. These miniature figurines, ornaments and trinkets might be things that look remind us of every day life, there might be animals, things that look funny, scary or that evoke feelings of love or spiritual connection. The process looks like playing with the sand, shaping it as you wish, and then arranging symbols as you wish to create your sand tray. This is a non-threatening style of therapy that doesn’t rely on talking. The child or adolescent is able to process their own experiences, memories, struggles and even unconscious roadblocks at their own pace.
Join us in creating a therapeutic space where the language of symbols unlocks new avenues for understanding, growth and healing.
